Vancouver to Honolulu
7 days at Sea
Neptune Suite 7074
We flew to Vancouver the day prior to embarkation
and stayed at the Fairmont Waterfront hotel at
Canada Place. We upgraded to a concierge lounge
floor room which included complimentary hot buffet
food and drinks. We nestled in and did not have to go
hunting a meal - highly recommended!
Next Morning we walked across the street to Canada Place - the cruiseship dock -
and boarded the Noordam for our 7 Day Southern Pacific Crossing.
Our taste for the
Suite Life had not
faded so our
stateroom was a
Neptune Suite
We sailed out of
Vancouver with
moonlight and
Canada behind us.
The lovely weather we left behind in
Vancouver did not last very long. We
encountered a big Pacific storm that was
not forecast - even the Captain was
surprised, he said. We encountered 70mph
winds and 30 foot waves and lots of
squalls. At one point the main pool
splashed out of the enclosure and flooded
the pool deck, leaking water through the
ceiling to the staterooms below. The crew
handled this all with calm precision,
though lots of people who had motion
sickness were not doing very well. To
make matters worse, a passenger suffered
a major health crisis and needed
immediate evacuation. Unfortunately we
were in the middle of the Pacific in a nasty
storm and an airlift was not possible. So
the Captain spiked the throttle and booked
us to Honolulu where we arrived a day
early and were able to disembark our sick
passenger safely.

We left the ship which was
continuing on a 40 day cruise
to Australia. We relocated to
Waikiki at the Hyatt Place just
a couple of blocks from the
beach. At this point I caught
someone's cold and was in
pretty poor shape to enjoy our
tours. However, I saved the
best for last. We flew home on
Hawaiian Air in first class -
Wow - best flight ever!
